The Long:
~ EE~ Early Elton A Tribute to the Elton John, Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson trio tours of 1970 - 1972 featuring: Jeff Kazee - piano, vocals Rich Pagano - drums, vocals John Conte - bass, vocals.
As the story goes, Elton's label didn't have the funds to send him out to tour the US with a full band, yet Elton need to promote his imminent releases. Having decided on Dee and Nigel, Elton then rearranged the songs and vocals to fit within the limitations of his new lineup. Suddenly, a new sound emerged that was both raw and poignant.
While Jeff, John and Rich have used rare video, bootleg recordings and even Elton's own home demos in shaping their collective vision of Elton's Trio Period, they will be blurring the lines between replication and innovation slightly, while still capturing and utilizing the spirit, mood and energy from those early tours.
Our May show was a fantastic debut.

JOHN in the STUDIO with AMY RIGBY
Amy's latest album, to be released in the summer of 2005, has John on bass and Denis Diken of the Smithereens on drums. The record was produced by New York's multi-talented John Greyboff & mixed by the legendary Don Dixon (R.E.M. , Smithereens) In an email to john , Don wrote : "I just finished mixing AMY RIGBY's new record and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your playing on it...a real pleasure to hear the bass in touch with the songs in such a visceral way..."
Since her debut album "Diary Of A Mod Housewife" in 1996, Amy Rigby has been compared to everyone from Elvis Costello to Carole King but “has no peer on the current pop scene” according to the Chicago Reader. Rigby’s second album "Middlescence" was another critical success and led to tours with Warren Zevon, Bob Mould and Billy Bragg as well as a spot on the 1998 Lilith Fair. Rigby’s fourth solo album "Til The Wheels Fall Off", released on Signature Sounds in April 2003, has been called “her best since her first,” (MOJO magazine) and “her best and most revelatory since Mod Housewife” (Winston-Salem Journal). The NY Times said, "Ms. Rigby's songs capture reality instead of inflating it...they blithely cross lines few artists have even approached."
Look out for her upcoming New York shows soon !!!!
JOHN PLAYS ON RACHEL YAMAGATA'S, "HAPPENSTANCE" AND KERI NOBLE'S, "FEARLESS"
Billboard review on Rachel's release, "Rachael Yamagata plays an emphatically rhythmic piano on "Happenstance," but her imploring, seductive voice is the dominant instrument. Like Rickie Lee Jones and Laura Nyro, two singer/ pianists she sometimes evokes, what counts is how the lyrics sound in the arrangements. Even the repeated words in the title of the opening song, "Be Be Your Love," suggest her rhythmic, percussive style of singing. Her writing can be exceptional. The centerpiece, "Worn Me Down," has an irresistible hook and an unforgettable melody. Yamagata also connects with primal emotions. On "Letter Read," Yamagata, skidding through lines like "I'm afraid and I can't breathe," sounds like she is hyperventilating. There's one bewildering song, "1963," in which Yamagata sings about having flowers in her hair. (Presumably, she means 1967.) But there's no denying the hungry songs of obsessive love that manage to be spooky, eternal and hip at the same time."
Billboard magazine writes about Keri's CD, "The next Norah Jones? Not so fast. True, this is a sparkling, beautifully recorded debut by a young pianist/ singer/songwriter. True, Arif Mardin serves as co-executive producer, also arranging and conducting strings. But from there the artists diverge. Where Jones' superb recordings are unerringly smooth, organic and mellow, Noble mixes sounds and delivery. She supplements her fine piano skills with drum loops on three of the album's 12 songs, for example. She's also unafraid—this is "Fearless," after all—to let loose, as on the rocker "Let It Rain." Here, as elsewhere, Noble delivers an angrier, throaty approach more akin to Joan Osborne. But this hook-laden album is also full of sweeter moments: the lap steel fading in and out of the wistful "Piece of My Heart," which is another standout and is by itself worth repeated listens. Fortunately, there are many such moments on this impressive debut."

JOHN "UP ALL NIGHT" WITH PETER WOLF, MICK + KEITH!
Peter Wolf enjoyed working with John so much on his 1998 release "Fool's Parade" that he had to have him back on a couple of tracks for his latest CD "Sleepless" on Artemis Records.
Veteran insomniacs, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, join in the fun as well as Steve Earle and Magic Dick.
Peter says about Sleepless, "I Tried to emulate the process and techniques of some of the records that have had a great influence on me. Everything-from the songs, the musicians, the studio, the recording equipment, right up to the final mastering-were all chosen to help achieve this goal."
Also back from the "Fools Parade" line-up is drummer, Shawn Pelton. "We fit like an old shoe," John says about playing with Shawn, "we've cut a lot of tracks over the years." Shawn plays on the Crown Jewels debut album "Spitshine". (Note: brother Steve Conte also played and sang on "Fool's Parade")
